Engineering Consultant - GPV Enterprises Ltd.

Ahuroa Gas Storage Project - Continued involvement in the gas storage project developed for Origin Energy. Reviewed P&IDs and participated in the HAZOP study for the project. Liaised with the EPC contractor during the design development.

NZS5442:1999 Compliance - Completed Hysys process simulations of the Waihapa and Rimu Production Stations and other engineering calculations to demonstrate that the plant design and operating procedures will result in the export gas from the plant complying the the requirements of NZS5442:1999.

TAG Plant Low Rate Operations - Completed process simulations and column hydraulic loading calculations to assess operational stability of the Tariki Ahuroa Gas plant at low gas throughputs.

Waihapa & Rimu Production Stations Technical Support - Technical advice and design reviews for various modifications to the operational plant.

Ahuroa Gas Storage Process Design - Developed Hysys simulation models for reuse of a depleted gas reservoir as a gas storage facility.
Cheal Production Station - Process engineering overview of the design of the Cheal oil production station in South Taranaki. Engineer to the FIDIC contract between Austral Pacific and Independent Technology Limited. Ongoing engineering support through plant commissioning and early operation.

Cheal Embedded Generation - Project manager for the installation of a 900 kW power generator at the Cheal "A" wellsite. Successfully commissioned in 2005.

Rimu Production Station - Debottlenecking study for the Rimu Production Station.

Lean Oil LPG Absorber Retrofit - Completed the process design for a refrigerated lean oil system to increase LPG recovery from the Tariki Ahuroa Gas (TAG) plant. New plant successfully commissioned.

Technical Support - Provided engineering support to the operation of the Waihapa and Rimu Production Stations.

PI System Development - Demonstrated the value of the PI ProcessBook and Datalink applications for remote monitoring and production accounting. Supervised the development of process graphics and spreadsheet applications to access data from the Rimu Production station.

Debottlenecking Studies - Completed a debottlenecking study for the Tariki Ahuroa Gas (TAG) plant and conducted plant trials to demonstrate increased capacity.

Gas Field Recompression - Completed the process design for the installation of two compressors to boost production from a declining gas-condensate field.

McKee Production Station Wet Fuel Gas Project - Designer and project manager for a liquids disengagement system to increase plant capacity by using raw separator gas for fuel.

McKee BTEX Incinerator - Process design, project management and commissioning engineer for an incinerator to destroy hydrocarbon emissions from three glycol regenerators.

Mangaone Water Treatment Plant - Process investigation and project management of debottlenecking project for oil field water flood water treatment plant.

McKee Production Station Upgrade - Process design for increasing capacity of oil and gas treatment plant.

McKee Control Systems Upgrade - Technology selection and project management of the installation of a Delta V foundation fieldbus control system into an existing production facility.

Kaimiro BTEX Incinerator - Process design, project management and commissioning engineer for an incinerator to destroy hydrocarbon emissions from a glycol regenerator at the Kaimiro Production Station.

Mangahewa Gas Treatment Plant -  Process design and commisssioning engineer for a propane refrigeration gas treatment plant to process 35 MMscfd of gas from a high pressure well in North Taranaki. The plant included a major expansion of the DeltaV control system, including multiple fieldbus segments in hazardous areas.

Sales Gate Design Review - Reviewed design and operability of the sales gate for the Stratford Combined Cycle power station and chaired a HAZOP study for proposed changes.

HAZOP Chairman - Chaired HAZOP study for a new milk processing unit.

HAZOP Chairman - Chaired HAZOP study for a spreadable butter plant.

Bitumen Plant Design - Produced piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for a bitumen blowing plant.

Hydrogen Plant Review - Conducted a review of the Howe-Baker hydrogen plant to formulate a long term monitoring and management programme for the catalysts and equipment.

Methanol Plant Process Design - Developed a ProVision simulation model and progressed a novel methanol plant design for off-shore applications.

Plant Studies and Investigations - Developed methodology for calculating marginal efficiency of production to enable optimum plant operation. Investigated fouling and metal dusting in high heat flux boilers and exchangers. Designed constant megawatt firing controller for the Waitara Valley plant to stabilise reformer temperatures.

Methanol Distillation Upgrade - Chaired the HAZOP study for the Distillation IV unit. Developed acceptance test run procedures for both new distillation units. Investigated DIII column tray failure during startup. Completed process design for variable speed, multi-head caustic dosing pumps for the distillation units.

Carbon Dioxide Emissions - Derived historical carbon dioxide emissions for the Methanex plant and developed a predictive model for future emissions to assist in developing a voluntary agreement on carbon dioxide emissions with the Government. Liaised with the Ministry of Commerce to reach agreement on methodology used to calculate emissions.

Flare Studies - Checked limitations in the flare systems to define allowable operating scenarios for the Motunui site when one flare is out of service for repairs.

Methanol Distillation II De-bottlenecking Project - Completed a fast track project to identify major production bottlenecks for the distillation unit and initiated procurement and installation of new trays in one of the columns. Developed PRO/II models of the distillation unit to assess limitations of the unit.

Hazard and Operability Studies Chairman - Chaired the HAZOP study for all on-site facilities for the new Distillation III project and for the control systems upgrade for one of the Waitara valley package boilers.

Distillation III Project - Revised the original feasibility studies for additional distillation capacity, developed the process specification for the unit and participated in the bid review and final contractor selection for the project.

Carbon Dioxide Emissions Study - Completed a study on carbon dioxide emissions from the Motunui complex to support an application for an air discharge permit.

Kapuni Gas Treatment Plant Audit - Completed a review of the refrigeration and fractionation units of the treatment plant to identify areas of concern to be addressed during a detailed audit of the facility.

LPG Blending Facility - Developed the PFD and detailed P&IDs for a LPG blending facility now installed at the Kapuni Gas Treatment Plant. Acted as project manager for the detailed engineering phase and wrote the commissioning and operating procedures for the facility.

Hazardous Area Drawings - Developed hazardous area drawings for the KA-1/7 gas re-injection wellsite to the IP Code Part 15.

Produced Water Disposal Feasibility Study - Completed a feasibility study to install booster pumps at the Kapuni Production Station to increase produced water disposal rates.

Choke Knockout Vessel Replacement - Completed a feasibility study and acted as project manager for the detailed design retrofit of a redundant vessel onto an existing gas processing skid.

Kapuni Wellsite De-bottlenecking - Project manager and process engineering input for a multi-disciplinary project to relocate a gas/condensate separation skid and install an air-cooled heat exchanger on the KA-4 wellsite. Process input included the development of the "AFC" P&IDs and Hazardous area drawings.

Kapuni Wellsite Safety Audit Engineering Review - Used Simulation Sciences "Process" flowsheeting program and computer spreadsheets to simulate different configurations for wellsite separation skids. Identified areas where control and shutdown instrumentation were subject to common mode failure and recommended changes to alleviate the problems. Assessed the effect of loss of instrument gas supply on the wellsite operation.

Moturoa Deballast Water Treatment Facility - Recommended changes to the water treatment facility to improve the effluent quality and suppress growth of sulphate reducing bacteria. Completed a feasibility study to assess the changes required to use the facility for hydrocarbon storage.

Glycol Oxygen Scavenging - Developed the process design and equipment specifications for oxygen scavenging and pH adjustment of the feed to the Glycol Purification Unit at the Maui Production Station.

Hydrocarbon Processing Facility Feasibility/Cost Study - Completed a study to define services and systems required to support a hydrocarbon processing plant for a green field site, including cost estimates.
